Xcel is excited to announce the 2nd Annual Race Against Skin Cancer Presented by the Friends of the University of Hawai’i Cancer Center.
The standup paddle race, to be held Saturday, February 22, is an initiative of the ongoing partnership between Xcel and the University of Hawai’i Cancer Center to fight skin cancer in Hawai’i and beyond. SUPers of all levels are encouraged to participate and help raise awareness for skin cancer; all event proceeds benefit the University of Hawai’i Cancer Center.
Following a successful inaugural event in 2013, the Race Against Skin Cancer returns to the iconic Waikiki shoreline with the 2.4 mile course beginning at Kaimana Beach (Sans Souci) and running just outside the surf zone, finishing at Duke Kahanamoku Beach (Fort DeRussy).
The 2nd Annual Race Against Skin Cancer is generously supported by event sponsors Turtle Bay Resort, Hui O He’e Nalu, C4 Waterman, Surftech, Standup Paddle Magazine, Ty Gurney Surf School, 83 East Video Productions, Kona Red, Vertra, and Island Sole. Hawaiian Water Patrol will provide world-class water safety. Timing and online registration will be provided by Pacific Sports Events and Timing.
Finish line festivities include the awards presentation for top finishers (men’s and women’s; unlimited, 14’, 12’6” and under), an awesome prize drawing for items donated by event sponsors, free skin cancer screenings, and more. All finishing racers receive automatic entry into the prize drawing.
Registration is currently open through Friday, February 21; on-site registration will be available on race day. Racers that pre-register by Monday, February 10 will be guaranteed an Xcel Ventx sun-protective race t-shirt.
